Our Therapy vs. Our Coaching
-
Mishara’s Words: Both therapy and coaching are beneficial.
Within this business, the coaching service It is unique because it is backed by the education, training and strategies of a licensed, experienced therapist.
My social & mental health therapy training let’s me get to the personal, social &/or generational root of challenges. Whereas, my holistic coaching perspective supports us in using a your own relationship to your mind & body to empower your engaged actions in the service of your goals.
In both coaching and therapy I focus on actions that reflect narrative beliefs about self from your role as the expert on you.
Whole body believing, healing liberation through pleasure, playfulness & preservation of yourself is my firm goal with both coaching and therapy.
I am happy to incorporate my coaching style into the therapy role. Both coaching and therapy in this business are available for the general public and fellow professionals.

Things To Know:
Coaching is more flexible in that it allows an appropriate mental wellness focus & facilitation of a professional relationship with any client who consents, regardless of location in the world, prior relationship with the coach, access to insurance or mental health experience.
-Coaching cannot be paid for with a health savings account and will not be recognized by your health insurance company.
-Coaching provides no medical diagnosis. It does not assume anything is “wrong.”
-Coaching is not considered medically necessary in the tax and health insurance industry. It cannot be paid for with a health savings account balance.
-Coaching does not require extensive paperwork [therapy clients fill out 10 telehealth medical forms for consent and communicate within a separate portal].
-Clients can be located anywhere in the world and maintain privacy about their location and lifestyle.

Therapy is a highly regulated, board and association-supervised, medically necessary healthcare service. It requires a clinical license and 8 yrs total education and training to offer an insurance-recognized DSM diagnosis.
It has a European colonial education foundation, backed by science and created centuries ago. It is not more or less valid than the mental health care systems founded centuries ago by People of Color in the Global Majority but it is dominant due to colonial interpretations of who and what determines health.
Because of it’s foundation, it is also scientifically backed and proven in certain populations to have substantial treatment benefit.
This service is helpful, recognized and popular. I offer this service for patients who reside specifically within the US state of Indiana where my license allows.
Things to Know:
-Therapy can be paid for with a health savings account and may be reimbursed by your private health insurance company as it is recognized by the IRS as healthcare.
-Therapy includes the diagnosis and treatment of medical intervention. A this medical record can be helpful for persons needing documentation to access USA systems of support.
-Therapy clients must reside in the US states the therapist is licensed in.

Communal Expertise vs. Licensure
On a personal note:
As a therapist and coach I receive mental wellness coaching from licensed therapists in the south & on the coasts and they are amazing.
I don’t believe in doing this work without mentors, coaches and community elders. Initially, I searched for therapists within my local state and not finding a good fit, found licensed and trained therapists who would coach me using methods that were not as available in the midwest USA. I could be anywhere in the world and still get good care.
On a Professional Note: I began offering coaching myself because I wanted myself, my clients, community and colleagues to get unstuck.
Amazing people outside of my home state needed mental wellness care I could offer but the insurance industry & my licensing board said “no!” even in social and physical health upheaval.
And amazing people inside my home state asked for another licensed Black therapist that shared their diverse faiths, relationship structures and joy- [especially if they knew me personally. And my network was connections from larger more diverse cities like Chicago, Oakland and Atlanta.
I started suggesting they contact these excellent therapists and ask for coaching because I was committed to our community members and professionals receiving excellent and thriving focused support.
I still am.
The topic of licensure [what person’s are allowed to receive it and what their experiences are within it] is a big one. Bigger than this space will allow. What you should know is I’m committed to our pleasure, our play and our mental wellness within the body-honest coaching and therapy options we make, especially for dynamic professionals.
This business looks at both the therapy and wellness coaching industry movers and shakers because we appreciate all kinds.
